New AWS functions in March 2024

Contents

New AWS functions are regularly added to the cloud and its applications by Amazon. Every month we give you a brief overview of new AWS functions and interesting updates in the cloud. This month's features include faster stack creation and Timestream.

New AWS functions in Amazon Bedrock

From version Aurora MySQL 3.06, Amazon Aurora ML offers direct access to the base models in Amazon Bedrock.

Data can be transferred between models using the SQL functions in Amazon Aurora ML. For example, between Aurora and machine learning services. There is no need to move data or create custom integrations.

Amazon Bedrock and Aurora ML work together in the current version and can, for example, create summaries of customer support notes in real time or process current database information.

This connection between Aurora and Bedrock improves automatic chatbot responses and optimizes other machine learning aspects in Amazon Aurora ML.

    New time series database

Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB is a new time series database engine. It allows developers and DevOps to easily run complete databases from InfluxDB in AWS in real time using open source APIs.

Timestream creates a database in InfluxDB in just a few minutes, handling demanding time series workloads. The created databases automatically set up backups and restore points and migrate and scale the data. The backups can be easily restored and redirected to a new data point.

Timestream for InfluxDB is fully featured in InfluxDB 2.7 and includes a deployment option with multi-AZ high availability and improved data durability.

If high availability data is required, Timestream in InfluxDB can be used to automatically create primary database instances. The data is synchronized on each instance. If Timestream detects a failure, it automatically switches to another instance.

New AWS functions for faster stack creation

In AWS CloudFormation, stacks can be created faster with the new AWS functions. The speed is said to be increased by up to 40 %. This is made possible by the new CONFIGURATION_COMPLETE event.

AWS CloudFormation creates resources by making API calls to AWS services. Previously, there were two stack events in CloudFormation that indicated the start of resource provisioning and the end of provisioning. With the new event, CloudFormation now also signals that the resource is created in the stack template and applies the defined configurations and waits for the consistency check to complete.

With this new AWS feature, CloudFormation is now able to create resources in parallel and does not always have to wait for one resource to be completed before starting another.

Learn AWS functions with skill it

In our seminars, we show you how to get the best out of the AWS functions. You can implement ideas and create helpful tools in various applications with AWS.

In the course Building Data Lakes on AWS you will learn how to create data lakes in AWS. Data lakes support the analysis of structured and unstructured data, such as that processed by InfluxDB.

Our comprehensive course The Machine Learning Pipeline on AWS lasts four days. In it, we explain everything you need to know about machine learning in AWS and let you get hands-on in practical exercises. Familiarize yourself with AWS through our seminars and slowly work your way into new AWS functions.
