Machine Learning Engineer
An AIMS certified to ISO/IEC 42001 plays a key role in building trust by ensuring that AI systems are managed ethically and responsibly. Participants will be equipped to audit AI management systems, thereby helping organizations demonstrate their commitment to transparency, security, and accountability in the use of AI. This strengthens the trust of stakeholders, customers, and regulatory authorities and promotes the responsible and ethical use of AI technologies.

The training content is based on the official PECB examination specifications.
Requirements:
To participate in this training, a basic understanding of ISO/IEC 42001 and the principles and concepts of AI is required.
Additional info:
The course documents are currently not available in German, therefore the lessons (course language German) are held with English documents.
- You will be able to independently plan, carry out and document audits for AI management systems in accordance with ISO/IEC 42001.
- You will gain in-depth knowledge of the standard and AI-specific audit issues - from governance and bias to security.
- You will receive practical training in all audit phases - including interviewing, evaluation, reporting and follow-up.
This training is based on key theoretical principles, the requirements and recommendations of various ISO standards, and industry-leading practices used in audits of AI management systems.
The training is enhanced by illustrating concepts with practical examples drawn from relevant case studies.
Exercises and multiple-choice tests prepare participants for the certification exam.
The ISO/IEC 42001 standard is not distributed during the training. However, Chapters 4–10 are incorporated into the training materials. Annex A is available only as a summary.

The "PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor" exam meets all the requirements of the PECB Examination and Certification Program (ECP). It covers the following areas of competence:
- Area 1: Fundamental Principles and Concepts of an AI Management System
- Area 2: Requirements for an AI management system
- Area 3: Basic audit concepts and principles
- Area 4: Preparation for an ISO/IEC 42001 audit
- Area 5: Conducting an ISO/IEC 42001 audit
- Area 6: Completion of an ISO/IEC 42001 audit
- Area 7: Management of an ISO/IEC 42001 audit program

Exam Language and Duration
The exam is available only in English. If you choose an exam language that is not your native language, you will be given an additional 30 minutes.
Option to repeat
candidates who have completed the training but failed the exam may retake the exam once free of charge within 12 months of the original exam date.
Certification Levels
After passing the exam, you can apply for your certificate from PECB. The level of the certificate you receive depends on your professional experience and project experience:
PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Provisional Auditor:
- No professional experience required
- No project experience required
PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Auditor:
- 2 years of professional experience (including 1 year in information security management)
- 200 hours of project experience
PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor:
- 5 years of professional experience (including 2 years in information security management)
- 300 hours of project experience
PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Senior Lead Auditor:
- 10 years of professional experience (including 7 years in information security management)
- 1,000 hours of project experience
Relevant project experience includes:
- Planning Audits and Managing an Audit Program
- Preparing audit working papers, audit reports, and reports on nonconformities
- Review and Management of Audit-Related Documented Information
- Conducting On-Site Audits
- Follow-up on Identified Nonconformities
- Leading an audit team
- Individuals with an audit background, whether internal or external, who wish to specialize in auditing AI management systems
