Expand your knowledge of Proxmox VE in a cluster environment: You will plan, build, and operate HA clusters with shared storage/Ceph, simulate failure scenarios, and automate workflows.
Contents

In the Advanced course, you will learn how to plan, set up, and reliably operate Proxmox VE as a high-availability cluster platform in an enterprise environment. You will gain a deeper understanding of quorum/consistency, redundant networking, shared storage, and Ceph; perform migrations safely; and master failover and recovery—all to minimize downtime and ensure scalable operations.

1. Cluster Design & Implementation

  • Requirements, Roles, Best Practices; Planning, Scaling, Checklist

2. Core Services & Quorum (pmxcfs & Corosync)

  • Consistency, error detection; quorum behavior and recovery

3. Cluster Networking & SDN

  • Management vs. Data, Bonding/MTU; VLAN/SDN, Policy-Based Approaches

4. Storage & Data Protection

  • NFS, iSCSI, LVM, ZFS; performance, backup considerations; classification

5. Ceph Operations in Proxmox

  • OSD/Mon/Mgr, RBD/CephFS; Maintenance, Upgrades, Best Practices

6. Workload Migrations

  • Live/Offline, Requirements/Limits; LXC vs. KVM

7. High Availability & Resilience

  • HA Manager, Fencing, Failover Policies; Node, Network, and Storage Failures & Recovery

8. Operations: Automation, Monitoring, and Troubleshooting

  • REST API, pvesh, qm/ct; Workflows, Logs/Diagnostics, Alerts, Completion Checklist

Requirements:

  • You have practical experience with Proxmox VE and are familiar with the basics.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux and networking is required.
Your benefit
  • Planning, sizing, and setting up a Proxmox VE cluster according to best practices (scalable and reliable)
  • Apply a troubleshooting methodology (logs, diagnostic tools, checks) to identify and resolve issues more quickly
  • Evaluating and Restoring Cluster Consistency, Including Quorum Handling During Failures (pmxcfs/Corosync)
  • Designing a redundant cluster network, including VLAN/SDN approaches for clear separation and stable data paths
  • Selecting and integrating shared storage options, and assessing their impact on performance and backup
  • Deploying and operating a Ceph cluster in Proxmox (RBD/CephFS), including low-risk maintenance and upgrades
  • Performing live and offline migrations within the cluster, including an assessment of prerequisites and limitations (KVM vs. LXC)
  • Configuring and testing high availability, including fencing and failover policies, to ensure reproducible recovery processes
  • Proficiency in handling typical failure scenarios (node/network/storage) and structured incident management to minimize downtime
  • Automation via API/CLI and setting up basic monitoring and alerting workflows
