Automating business processes while meaningfully integrating generative AI—this holds great promise, but in practice often falls short for two reasons: Either it remains limited to chat experiments with no real connection to actual processes, or AI is forced into existing workflows in an uncontrolled manner, without validation or human oversight. This two-day “ training ” workshop shows you how to do it right. On Day 1, working alongside Microsoft Copilot as your sparring partner, you’ll develop an end-to-end, SharePoint-based automation process—from the initial process sketch to a functioning cloud flow. Copilot guides you through every step: process modeling, flow creation, troubleshooting, and optimization. On Day 2, generative AI itself becomes part of the process. You’ll start by developing prompts interactively, formalize them for automated execution, and integrate them into the flow—for text analysis, classification, structured information extraction, and document evaluation. Throughout the course, you’ll learn to validate AI results, ensure their accuracy through human-in-the-loop checks, and operate the process in compliance with governance requirements. By the end, you will have built a fully functional AI-powered automation process and established a practical approach for independently evaluating, developing, and responsibly operating additional use cases.
Contents

1. From Business Problem to Automation Process

    • Identify and define suitable automation scenarios.
    • Determine triggers, inputs, process steps, decisions, and results.
    • Use Copilot as a sparring partner for process modeling and data modeling.

2. Power Automate Basics and Your First Cloud Flow

    • Power Platform and Power Automate in the context of Microsoft 365.
    • Cloud flows, triggers, actions, connectors, and connections.
    • Use Copilot to create an initial flow draft and review the suggestion.

3. Data and Process Logic in the Flow

    • SharePoint data, conditions, status values, and dynamic content.
    • Expressions and Loops: A Real-World Example.
    • Use Copilot to create and explain conditions; have the results reviewed by subject matter experts.

4. Copilot-Assisted Development, Testing, and Optimization

    • Formulate technical requirements precisely; have Copilot explain errors and logic.
    • Prepare test cases and edge cases with AI support.
    • Recognize hallucinations and false assumptions; assess responsibility for the examination.

5. From Interactive Prompt to Process Prompt

    • Clearly separate the AI task, context, input data, and output format.
    • Develop prompts interactively, refine them using test cases, and formalize them for automation.

6. Integrating Generative AI into the Flow

    • Integrate the prompt or AI action into the existing cloud flow.
    • Save AI results in SharePoint and process them further.
    • Identify the differences between an interactive prototype and automated execution.

7. Structured AI Outputs, Validation, and Document Analysis

    • Return results organized by category, priority, or responsibility.
    • Check outputs for completeness and plausibility; provide fallbacks.
    • Extract information from documents and transfer it to the process.

8. Human-in-the-Loop, Governance, and Your Own Automation Pilot

    • Clearly separate AI suggestions from expert decisions; incorporate human review.
    • Classify permissions, permitted AI services, DLP, and traceability.
    • Design your own AI-powered automation use case.
Your benefit
  • With Microsoft Copilot as your sparring partner, you'll develop an end-to-end, fully functional Power Automate process—from the initial process sketch to a tested cloud flow.
  • You know how to use Copilot specifically for creating flows, troubleshooting, and optimization, rather than accepting suggestions without reviewing them.
  • You systematically develop prompts, from interactive testing to automated, repeatable use within the workflow.
  • You integrate generative AI into business processes in a controlled manner—for text analysis, classification, extraction, and document evaluation.
  • You validate AI results in a structured manner and verify them through human-in-the-loop checks.
  • You are familiar with the governance, licensing, and operational issues relevant to the production use of AI in Power Automate.
  • By the end of the course, you will have designed your own AI-powered automation solution that you can immediately begin implementing.

Methods

The course consistently follows a "guided build" approach: Instead of many separate demos, you'll continue to develop a single, end-to-end automation process over the course of both days.

  • Brief theoretical insights with immediate practical application
  • Build, Test, Explain: Build, Run, Explain Results, and Make Targeted Improvements
  • Prompt Prototyping: Test interactively, formalize, and test again in the flow
  • Comparison of different inputs and AI outputs using a prepared test set
  • Human-in-the-loop review for technical decisions
  • Peer review of one's own pilot use case at the end of the course

Prerequisites: A basic understanding of Microsoft 365 is sufficient—knowledge of Power Automate and programming is not required. A modern browser, a stable internet connection, and, ideally, a second screen for working with Copilot and Power Automate simultaneously are recommended. A prepared training environment with licensed accounts and enabled AI features will be provided.

Final examination
Recommended for
  • Subject matter experts and power users who want to automate recurring tasks and departmental processes
  • IT and digital transformation leaders who want to understand AI-powered automation from both a business and technical perspective
  • Process and automation managers who want to effectively integrate Microsoft 365, Power Automate, and generative AI
  • Project managers and influencers who would like to evaluate and pilot initial AI-powered automation use cases
