The new functions in AWS in June 2024

Contents
As every month, we take a look at the new functions in AWS. In June 2024, Amazon has once again added some new features, updates and functions to the cloud applications. Among the new functions in AWS this month are better application monitoring and application testing.
Application monitoring in the new functions in AWS
Amazon CloudWatch Application Signals is a feature that has been available since June 2024 and can be used to monitor the performance of applications. The feature is compatible with OpenTelemetry (OTEL) and enables application performance monitoring (APM) directly in CloudWatch.
Amazon CloudWatch Application Signals automatically measures the Service Level Objectives (SLO) on request. No manual setup is required and no code is needed. A ready-made dashboard already contains the key figures for measuring and monitoring application performance within AWS.
Amazon CloudWatch Application Signals ensures faster error detection through continuous automatic application monitoring, thereby accelerating troubleshooting and reducing interruptions in the use of applications.
SageMaker JumpStart with new functions in AWS
Amazon SageMaker Canvas is an application for analysts and data scientists who want to work outside the Canvas workspace. The application works entirely without code and also enables the use of generative AI. The basis for this is provided by the basic models or Foundation Models (FM).
These base models come from Amazon Bedrock or SageMaker JumpStart. FMs based on JumpStart can now be deployed to SageMaker endpoints, making it easier to incorporate generative AI capabilities outside of the workspace. FMs include Llama 2 and Falcon 7B.
This simplification accelerates the transition from experimentation to the production of applications.
AWS Glue with new usage profiles
In June 2024, the AWS Glue data processing service will receive usage profiles as new functions. These profiles are used to control costs and allow administrators to limit resources.
The usage profiles in AWS Glue can be used to create different classes that are assigned different authorizations and resources.
In addition to cost control in AWS Glue, the new usage profiles also create opportunities for better organization and project management. Each usage profile created can be assigned to a specific person and restricted to certain resources accordingly.
New functions in AWS with application testing
Sufficient testing of new applications is important in order to develop functional applications that meet all the requirements placed on them.
AWS Mainframe Modernization Application Testing automates regression tests for mainframe applications. This saves time during application testing. With extensive test functions such as automatic test recording, test repetition on demand and test comparisons, AWS Mainframe Modernization Application Testing accelerates the test processes.
The tests can be carried out independently of the application architecture and programming languages. This allows large-scale data changes to be compared with each other.
The scalability of the tests, automatic repetition and test case management save developers time and money, resulting in faster completion of applications.
Using AWS applications with skill it
More and more applications are being released every month, expanding the platforms we use. In our seminars, you can familiarize yourself with the most important applications or expand your knowledge in order to keep pace with a market that is developing so rapidly.
With the AWS Technical Essentials you will get to know the most important technical features of AWS and learn how to use Amazon's cloud.
Learn more in Developing on AWShow to develop your own applications and solutions. In the three-day course Advanced Developing on AWS you will expand this knowledge considerably and dive deep into the possibilities of application development in AWS.
