New and enhanced functions in Amazon Web Services

Contents

Amazon adds new applications to its Amazon Web Services (AWS) at irregular intervals and enhances existing applications with new or improved functions. We give you an overview of what's new in AWS, what has been improved and where fresh approaches can be found. This time: Amazon SageMaker Canvas, OpenSearch and AWS Step Functions.

Advanced functions in Amazon SageMaker Canvas

AWS has added new functions to the SageMaker Canvas application and expanded existing functions. The service for business analysis generates forecasts for machine learning and artificial intelligence without a single line of code. This enables access to Foundation Models (FMs), which are evaluated to generate and summarize content.

The functions for summarizing content and extracting information from data have been enhanced.

users can index documents in Amazon Kendra and use this index directly in Amazon SageMaker Canvas to extract information from the documents.

The prerequisite for using the extended functions is support for Amazon SageMaker Canvas, Amazon Kendra, AmazonBedrock and Amazon SageMaker JumpStart.

Amazon charges for the use of Amazon Kendra and FMs in Amazon Bedrock.

New functions in OpenSearch with search pipelines

OpenSearch 2.9 has a new feature called search pipelines. This simplifies the creation of queries and result processing, which are structured as modular processing steps in a composition, but do not make the application software unnecessarily complicated.

The individual steps include filters, query rewriters, natural language processors and result rewriters. The framework for the search pipelines also provides some standard processors for OpenSearch:

    - Script processor

    - Search query modifier

    - Field renamer

The search pipelines are available for current queries or all search queries within an index.

Totals position for pivot tables in Amazon QuickSight

New functions in Amazon QuickSight now give pivot tables a totals position for selected rows and columns on request. This gives users more flexibility in the design and presentation of table data. Specific use cases and individual requirements are easier to implement and the display of total values is easier to compare with other values.

Row totals can be arranged both at the top and at the bottom. It is also possible to automate the position to ensure smooth transitions between compact and tabular layouts in pivot tables. The default position for row totals is at the top in the compact layout and at the bottom in the tabular layout.

users now have the option of positioning column totals on the left and right in a pivot table. The default setting is on the right-hand side.

The new functions for the totals item are available in the Standard and Enterprise editions of Amazon QuickSand.

Optimized integration for Amazon EMR Serverless in AWS Step Functions

An optimized integration for Amazon EMR Serverless in AWS Step Functions supports the integration pattern "Run a Job (.sync)" with the following API actions of EMR Serverless:

    - CreateApplication

    - StartApplication

    - StopApplication

    - DeleteApplication

    - StartJobRun

    - CancelJobRun

The serverless option within Amazon EMR simplifies the execution of open source frameworks for big data analysis. Analysts and technicians can dispense with the configuration, management and scaling of servers.

The optimized feature simplifies the application in Step Functions by replacing EMR data processing pipelines with a single Step Functions state by removing individual steps to monitor the completion of asynchronous jobs.

In our three-day Developing on AWS training , you will learn how to use AWS Step Functions and other AWS programs to integrate applications and data that you have previously set up.
