Azure capacities doubled: Microsoft expands data center in Germany

Contents
Azure capacities are no longer sufficient for the increasing demand for the cloud. Microsoft has therefore announced that it will expand the data center region Germany in Frankfurt am Main by the beginning of 2024. Capacities are to be at least doubled.
Azure capacities are important
Microsoft is continuously expanding capacity for the Azure Cloud in the most important regions. Germany is a strong location with customers from the automotive, pharmaceutical and electronics industries. Companies such as Siemens, Mercedes-Benz and Bayer have been using the Azure cloud for years. Other companies are following suit.
The doubling of capacity for Microsoft Azure in Germany is intended to meet the needs of companies of all sizes to drive digital innovation via the cloud and AI.
Marianne Janik, CEO of Microsoft Germany, adds: "By expanding our Azure capacities in Germany, we are ensuring that we can meet the demand of our customers now and in the future. We are providing companies with the infrastructure they need to succeed in the age of AI - with the reliability and security of the Microsoft Cloud."
Over 50 percent of German companies are already investing in cloud applications. The majority of them are planning to expand their use of the cloud in the coming years. Other companies are just jumping on the bandwagon.
This is what the doubling of Azure capacities in Germany brings
"Microsoft has been a companion and pioneer of digitalization in Germany for 40 years. By expanding our cloud infrastructure, we are helping to ensure that Germany can successfully master the next stages of digital transformation and that German companies are successful in the AI economy," says Marianne Janik.
By doubling Azure capacities in Germany, computing power is increasing and latency times are decreasing. This is urgently needed, as Germany is one of the fastest growing Azure regions in Europe.
Microsoft has also recently expanded the Move program. Microsoft customers can use it to move data from other European countries to the German data centers free of charge. This provides additional computing power, which is to be covered from the beginning of 2024.
The cooperation between German companies and Microsoft and the joint developments via Azure applications should also not be underestimated. For example, we recently reported reported on the Siemens Copilotwhich Siemens and Microsoft are developing together.
The Germany region is particularly important for Microsoft and Azure, as it is centrally located in the middle of Europe and is valued by German and international customers. This is why the official title is "Region Germany, West-Central". The doubling of Azure capacities in Germany therefore serves not only German but also international companies throughout Europe.
