Siemens and Microsoft develop Copilot for all industries

    Back in April 2023, Siemens and Microsoft announced that they were jointly planning to advance the industry with generative AI. Now these plans are taking on a more concrete form. As an assistant with generative AI, the "Siemens Industrial Copilot" is intended to increase production and simplify collaboration between man and machine.

    Siemens Industrial Copilot

    The "Copilot" is not a new development at Microsoft. The assistant equipped with generative AI already exists for almost all of the technology giant's applications. The new Security Copilot entered a test phase just a few weeks ago.

    Together with Siemens, Microsoft is expanding the series of co-pilots in the future. The focus will be on the different business sectors.

    The Siemens Industrial Copilot is the first of these. The jointly developed AI assistant is designed to simplify collaboration between humans and machines in industrial companies. Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, says: "With this next generation of AI, we have a unique opportunity to accelerate innovation across the industrial sector. We are building on our long-standing collaboration with Siemens and combining AI advancements in the Microsoft Cloud with Siemens' industrial expertise to empower both frontline and knowledge workers with new AI-powered tools, starting with Siemens Industrial Copilot."

    Roland Busch, CEO of Siemens AG, explains: "The technology has the potential to revolutionize how companies design, develop and manufacture." The aim is to improve the way employees and systems work together, which "... enables engineers to develop software faster, promotes innovation and overcomes the shortage of skilled workers."

    Siemens Industrial Copilot enables the automatic generation of complex programming code and optimizes codes by detecting and eliminating errors. In this way, a process that would take several weeks is reduced to just a few minutes.

    Siemens' open digital business platform "Xcelerator" and Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service serve as the basis for Siemens Industrial Copilot. Customer data remains secure at all times. The AI does not use it for training. Instead, there will probably be updates from Siemens and Microsoft to improve the AI.

    Siemens and Microsoft have big plans. The Siemens Industrial Copilot is to be followed by further generative AI assistants for various industries. Copilots are currently planned for the following sectors:

    - Manufacturing

    - Health

    - Infrastructure

    - Transportation

    Several copilots are being planned and developed for each sector. The exact plans are not yet known for all sectors. In manufacturing, co-pilots for the automotive, consumer goods and mechanical engineering industries have been announced so far.

    Leading automotive supplier Schaeffler AG is already planning to introduce the Siemens Industrial Copilot in its operations in order to significantly reduce downtimes for its customers.

    Klaus Rosenfeld, CEO of the Schaeffler Group , says: "Siemens Industrial Copilot will reduce the number of routine tasks and help to increase the efficiency of our team and promote creativity. We are very pleased to be working with Siemens and Microsoft on this project."
