The new functions in AWS in February 2024

Contents

Amazon is continuously expanding its Amazon Web Services with new applications and updates to existing apps. We will take a look at the new features each month and provide a brief overview. New features in AWS in February 2024 include approval rules for CodeCatalyst and TLS 1.3 for API Gateway and OpenSearch.

Permissions and security with TLS 1.3

Amazon CodeAnalyst has had approval rules for pull requests since February 2024. With CodyAnalyst, teams can plan, program, create, test and deploy applications in AWS. The new functions in AWS for pull requests allow work on a project to be better structured and quality to be better maintained.

The new functions make it possible to change and organize the number of permits.

The introduction of TLS 1.3 for API Gateway and Amazon OpenSearch Serverless, among others, is less organizational but more focused on data security.

The Transport Layer Security protocol in version 1.3 works with One Roundtrip and ciphers that only use Perfect Forward Secrecy. This creates a secure connection between the client and gateway that works via encrypted data records. TLS transfers the encryption and decryption of data directly to the API gateway, making it more difficult for hackers to intercept or read data.

New APIs in the AWS Control Tower

The AWS Control Tower has received new APIs to simplify the management of accounts and especially the registration of organizational units. The new functions in AWS make it possible to activate baselines for organizational units and extend governance to the organizational units.

New features in AWS Control Tower include APIs for:

    - Taking measures on the basis of an organizational unit

    - The detection of configurations for activated baselines

    - The status display of a specific operation.

    - Capturing the content of managed baselines.

Thin client for Amazon WorkSpaces available in Germany

The Amazon WorkSpaces Thin Client device is now also available in Germany. With the Thin Client, companies reduce the overall cost of virtual desktops, improve their data security and simplify the provision of virtual desktops for end users.

Amazon promises that users can set up WorkSpaces Thin Client within a few minutes and connect all peripheral devices. This is then used to log on to virtual desktops such as Amazon WorkSpaces or Amazon AppStream 2.0.

The fact that no data or applications are stored on the device itself increases data security. Thin Client prevents this approach and prohibits the downloading of data and the installation of applications on the device. The control instance allows IT to decide who can access the data via the virtual desktops.
