Shaping the future sustainably

The Inner Development Goals in partnership with the Haufe Akademie

Tips on the IDG
Inner Development Goals?

Learning and developing together

The global non-profit initiative "Inner Development Goals" (IDGs) was founded in Stockholm in 2019 with this in mind. It unites people worldwide, primarily from the knowledge and business sectors. The vision: to equip us worldwide with skills and qualities to create a more sustainable, global society. The goal: to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. The Haufe Akademie is a partner of the IDGs.

Sustainability on a scientific basis

The IDG Framework

The first phase of the IDG work consisted of a scientific survey of 1000+ participants worldwide. The result: an inventory of relevant skills and qualities for personal growth in order to achieve the UN's SDGs. The IDG Framework was created from this data. It currently comprises five dimensions with a total of 23 subordinate skills - and is being continuously developed.

1. being - relationship to oneself
  • Inner compass
  • Integrity and authenticity
  • Openness and willingness to learn
  • Self-knowledge
  • Presence

2. thinking - cognitive skills
  • Critical thinking
  • Awareness of complexity
  • Ability to change perspective
  • Creation of meaning
  • Long-term orientation and visions

3. relationship - caring for others and the world
  • Appreciation
  • Connectedness
  • Modesty
  • Empathy and compassion

4. cooperation - social skills
  • Communication skills
  • Co-creation skills
  • Inclusive mindset and intercultural competence
  • Trust
  • Mobilization skills

5. take action - drive change
  • Courage
  • Creativity
  • Optimism
  • Perseverance

The work of the IDGs

Co-Creation & Best Practice

In co-creation and a wide variety of events and formats, renowned experts show and explain how we can develop the necessary skills to achieve the United Nations' SDGs. Together with universities, scientists and companies worldwide, the IDG Framework is constantly being updated. An important focus here is to offer open source development opportunities.

The practical examples from companies are particularly important and helpful. Representatives from IKEA, Stena Line, Novartis, Google and Icebug report openly and practically on how they integrate the IDGs into their day-to-day business. This look over the shoulder at the use of the IDG framework in (leadership) development is also enormously valuable for the ongoing development of our Haufe Be6! Leadership Framework. And surely for you too?

Getting closer to the goal together

A sustainable and secure future will succeed if we humans are able to act sustainably - and continue to develop ourselves to do so. This is the conviction of the IDG initiative.

We think along the same lines. Our mission is to facilitate development. For many years, Haufe Akademie has been supporting and empowering people and organizations for a secure and sustainable future.

Large parts of our existing portfolio contribute to this and it is being further strengthened in this direction. Above all, this includes our Be6! Leadership Circle. This is why the IDGs are an important partner for inspiration and exchange.
