Inspiring stories of people who make a difference

In her role as a project assistant in the civil engineering division at Hering Bahnbau GmbH, Sarah Schwehn describes herself as a “jack-of-all-trades.” Her daily routine is fast-paced. In addition to traditional construction site preparation tasks—such as obtaining permits and corresponding with government agencies—her responsibilities also include assisting the construction management team with scheduling and organizing work crews.

TA Europe stands for Technical Advisors. Just explaining this industry alone is pure stress. Cost managers, architects, and building physicists work in interdisciplinary teams to determine everything needed to assess the value and technical condition of real estate, for example, for transactions. Andrea Klippel is the office manager there and oversees 90 project managers.

Office management
Complex requirements of a modern job profile
The secretary sits at their desk while their boss paces up and down the office dictating a letter - this job description no longer exists. Today, modern office managers take on a wide range of responsible tasks.
Classic office tasks such as reception, appointment management, mail and e-mail are of course still part of the jobs of secretarial staff. But there are also many other interesting tasks. These can include, for example, managing the company website and the corresponding social media channels, preparing for and following up on business meetings, assisting with legal and tax issues, managing your own projects and taking on management tasks.
However, the most important task of office management is to relieve the managing director, head of department or CEO. As the "right hand" of the superior, office assistants have a detailed insight into internal company processes and take on the often difficult position position between superiors and employees . This is why working in the office requires not only perfect computer and software skills and two or more foreign languages, but also numerous other skills.
In addition to technical know-how and basic knowledge in the areas of business, HR and marketing , these are above all soft skills such as the ability to work in a team, flexibility, organizational talent, strong communication skills and creativity. This challenging job is often rewarded with an attractive salary, which can be up to 50,000 euros per year depending on the industry and region. Would you like to further your education in this interesting professional field? Then attend one of the "Office Management" seminars at the Haufe Akademie.
