This training practical training in identifying, prioritizing, and documenting architecture-related requirements. You will learn how stakeholders effectively with stakeholders and apply iterative approaches in requirements engineering. The aim is to make informed decisions for sustainable software architectures.
Contents of the Requirements module for software architects:
- Fundamentals of requirements engineering and architecture-related decisions.
Clean start:
- Definition of vision, goals, and stakeholders.
Functional requirements:
- Structuring, documentation, and refinement.
Quality requirements & restrictions:
- Identification, categorization, and acceptance criteria.
Behavior-oriented development:
- Introduction to BDD and use of scenarios.
Prioritization & Assessment:
- Evaluation based on business value and technical effort.
Cooperation between roles:
- Integration of architects, developers, and requirements engineers.
Practical examples:
- Analysis and application of real requirements documents.
Requirements:
- You should have basic knowledge of software architecture, as taught in CPSA-F.
- Initial practical experience in developing software architectures and working with stakeholders required.
- Knowledge of different types of requirements (functional and quality requirements) is helpful.
- Experience with iterative development processes and agile methods makes it easier to get started.
- A basic understanding of documentation techniques and tools for requirements engineering is advantageous.
Technical requirements:
There are no special requirements for the training environment, as the exercises take place using cloud- and web-based tools such as Miro, Draw.io, and platforms such as Jupyter or HuggingFace. All that is needed is a stable and sufficiently fast internet connection.
- You will learn to identify architecture-related requirements in a targeted manner and to apply iterative approaches to requirements gathering.
- You will acquire knowledge on how to differentiate between functional requirements, quality requirements, and constraints, as well as how to prioritize them.
- You understand how to effectively document requirements and trace them back to architectural documentation.
- You will deepen your knowledge of working with stakeholders to manage different requirements and conflicting goals.
- You will gain practical insights into methods such as behavior-driven development and the use of scenarios for specification.
- You will learn how to select suitable tools for requirements engineering and use them effectively.
