In this training , controllers and professionals involved in data processing will learn the basics and best practices of data modeling with Power BI and Excel. The aim is to integrate data from various sources efficiently and model it cleanly in order to create the basis for well-founded analyses and reports. With the help of practical exercises and concrete case studies, you will learn how to use the star schema and other models to optimize your data structure and improve the performance of your reports.

- Data modeling in OLTP databases such as relational SQL databases.
- Data modeling in OLAP databases such as Power BI.
The strengths and weaknesses of the flat table as a data model
The necessity of the star scheme
- Improved evaluation options.
- Simplified DAX commands.
- Storage space and performance.
Data import with the help of Power Query
- Creation of dimension and fact tables.
- Data cleansing and transformation such as UnPivot functionality.
- Differentiation between joins in Power Query and relationships in Power Pivot.
Basics of the star chart
- Basic relationship management in Power BI (1:1, 1:n, n:n).
- Active and inactive connections, e.g. for date tables.
- Multi-fact scheme for complex target/actual comparisons.
Best practices for data modeling

To take part in the training , you will need your own laptop with Microsoft Excel installed (Office 365 is recommended) and Power BI integrated (the latest version is recommended).
Recommended for
controllers and users from other areas who want to integrate complex data structures into reports and dashboards.
Good basic knowledge of MS Excel and regular use of pivot tables are required. The training is not suitable for Excel newcomers .
Previous knowledge of Power Query is helpful, but not required.
