With our partner ArbeiterKind.de

ArbeiterKind.de offers encouragement: The volunteers from our social partner support first-generation college students on their individual educational journeys—with personal experience, practical know-how, and perseverance.
After all, they’ve been through similar experiences and understand the concerns of first-generation college students very well: fear of debt and the feeling of losing touch with their non-academic families are just a few of them. Added to this is the uncertainty of entering the academic workforce.
Entering an academic career also presents many first-time college students with new challenges: Unlike entering the workforce after completing vocational training or
school-based education, this transition often leads to personal uncertainties and career-related questions.
This is where ArbeiterKind.de provides guidance—for a successful start in your first job.

Getting off to a successful start in your first job: With this goal in mind, our efforts focus on the career entry program offered by ArbeiterKind.de.
Our partnership with the “ Haufe Akademie ” enables twenty first-year college students seeking guidance and their volunteer mentors to receive supportive guidance through the career entry program each year.
The program combines mentoring, workshops, and webinars to provide targeted preparation for starting one’s first academic job.
Jörg Schmidt was a guest on ArbeiterKind.de – the podcast – and spoke about his personal experience as a first-generation academic. He answered questions that concern many young people: How do I find my bearings? Who can help me with this?

Dr. Jörg Schmidt, Managing Director of Personnel Development, Haufe Akademie
