Software license law & open source software, big data, AI

Legal issues relating to software licenses and OSS, data science and artificial intelligence (advanced seminar)

This training is held in German.
Open source software (OSS) is an integral part of digital infrastructures - but comes with complex legal requirements. This training offers a practical introduction to software licensing law with a special focus on OSS. It covers central license models such as GPL, MIT, BSD or Apache, the copyleft principle and the implementation of licensing obligations in business practice. One focus is on the question of how compliance and legal certainty can be ensured when using OSS - using the open source compliance standard ISO/IEC 5230 (Open Chain 2.1) as an example. In addition, typical contractual clauses in dealing with OSS and international issues, such as cross-border license agreements and applicable law, will be examined. The training is rounded off with an insight into copyright issues in the context of AI and big data - including the use of external data sources such as research or traffic data. Participants will thus gain the specialist knowledge they need to use open source software in a legally compliant and forward-looking manner within the company.
