In this course, explore the CNCF ecosystem surrounding Kubernetes. Over the course of two days, learn how to use select CNCF projects to operate your Kubernetes infrastructure and microservices more securely, efficiently, and sustainably.

Running Kubernetes in production presents specific challenges—from security and scalability to monitoring and cost control. In this course, you’ll gain a hands-on overview of what are known as Day 2 operations.

 

Through a step-by-step example project, you’ll learn how to efficiently tackle key tasks in a production Kubernetes environment. Along the way, you’ll be introduced to a selection of relevant CNCF.io projects that support secure, high-performance, and sustainable cluster operations.

 

The course content is organized around five typical layers of Kubernetes operations:

  • KTLO (Keep the Lights On)
  • Security
  • Change
  • Optimization
  • Housekeeping

 

Tools and projects discussed in the course:

  • Development: Skaffold
  • Setup & operation: cert-manager, Harbor
  • Operator Patterns: Examples from frp (Fast Reverse Proxy), IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things), etc.
  • Security & Traffic: Istio, Zipkin, Kyverno
  • Monitoring & logging: Prometheus, Alertmanager, Fluentd
  • Serving & Eventing: Knative, CloudEvents
  • Storage & databases: Longhorn, Vitess, CloudNativePG
  • Multi-cluster & network: Cilium, eBPF

 

Requirements: 

A prerequisite is prior completion of a Kubernetes course. Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of working with Kubernetes clusters and container technologies.
